    About

The problem it solves The purpose of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, as mandated in the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, includes, among other things, the advancement of public welfare. One strategic step to enhance public welfare is to strengthen the role of waqf as a religious institution that not only aims to provide various facilities for worship and social purposes but also possesses significant economic potential. This potential can be utilized to advance public welfare, making it essential to develop its usage in accordance with Shariah principles. The practice of waqf in society has not yet been fully orderly and efficient, resulting in cases where waqf assets are not properly maintained, neglected, or unlawfully transferred to third parties. This situation arises not only from the negligence or inability of the nazir to manage and develop waqf assets but also from the community's lack of awareness or understanding of the waqf assets' status, which should be protected for public welfare in accordance with the intended purpose, function, and designation of waqf. Lagoon gives a modern solution in managing waqf through blockchain. One of them is to manage waqf assests by helping in opening donations for operational costs and charity. Blockchain, being decentralized could reduce the misuse of waqf and distrust of community about a certain institution because everything would be more transparent and more secure. In the future, we are planning to make tokenized waqf assets to prevent unlawfully transferred to third parties and DAO. DAO will enable every participants to decide what to do with those assests so that it can be more productive, help in economical potential and have a sense of belonging to manage the assests. Although we have Indonesia in mind, we want it to be able to help globally in the waqf and charity aspects.

    How it's made

Challenges we ran into During the development of the smart contracts for the Lagoon dApp, we encountered a critical vulnerability related to reentrancy. This issue could potentially allow malicious actors to exploit the contract and drain funds. We added reentrancy modifier and several additional conditions such as 30 days withdrawal so that during those 30 days, the community and donors can review the proposals. As rookie developers, we faced a steep learning curve when building the Lagoon dApp. This included unfamiliarity with certain blockchain technologies, smart contract development, and integrating complex systems. Our limited experience initially slowed down the development process as we navigated new tools and concepts. We reached out to more experienced developers in the community for guidance and feedback, which significantly accelerated our progress and dedicated time to learning through online courses, tutorials, and community resources. To enhance the user experience and develop unique NFTs, we have decided to partner with IDNFT. Their expertise will also guide us in improving our management, marketing, and operational strategies. We understand that for many who are new to Web3 dApps, trusting this emerging technology can be challenging, particularly due to concerns like the irreversible nature of transactions if sent to the wrong address. Our goal is to minimize such risks and ensure a secure and reliable experience for all users. For a more detailed documentation, we attach it on our project link.
