How builders work
Where the data comes from
Each project on ETHGlobal links its source code. For projects on GitHub, we look at the commits made to that repository from two days before the hackathon started to two days after it ended. Everyone whose commits there belong to a GitHub account is listed as a builder of the project.
We store your GitHub username and account id, nothing else: no email addresses, no names from commits.
What we leave out
- Bots and AI coding agents that commit under their own account.
- For a fork of a template or an existing project, people who only committed to the original.
- Commits from emails that aren't linked to a GitHub account, and work on branches other than the default one.
So a project can be missing a teammate, and now and then list someone who only contributed code it reused.
Is this you?
You can ask to be removed from a project, or to have your builder page taken down entirely. Emailremove@medalist.build from the address on your GitHub profile (or tell us which address to expect) with your GitHub username and what to remove. Removals stick: we won't add you back when the data is refreshed.
Signing in with GitHub to confirm or remove your own projects is coming later.
