    Tollgate Agent

Let AI agents pay for useful services while you control how much and who they can spend it to.

    About

AI agents can do useful work, but giving them access to money requires clear limits. Tollgate lets you give an agent a budget, choose who it can pay, and decide when its spending permission ends. In our demo, an agent pays for a research report comparing Aave, Uniswap, and Morpho. You can follow each step, from requesting the report to making the payment and receiving the result. The spending rules are enforced by a smart contract. If an instruction asks the agent to spend more than allowed, the contract blocks it. The owner can also turn off the agent’s spending access. The idea is simple: let agents buy what they need to complete a task, while keeping people in control of the money.

    How it's made

We built the interface with Next.js and React, and the backend with Node.js. The spending rules live in Solidity smart contracts on Arc testnet, with payments made in test USDC. Circle provides the agent’s wallet. The owner uses their own browser wallet to set the budget and approve payment recipients. For the research report, we get token activity data from The Graph and use an AI model running through Ollama to turn it into a readable explanation. We use an x402 payment flow: the service tells the agent what the report costs, the agent pays through Tollgate, and the service checks the payment before releasing the report. We adapted this flow so every payment passes through the owner’s spending rules.
