About
Keyless, an demo app that shows how nihilium recovery can be integrated with Privy to select guardians of privy accounts without them needing to be part of the privy ecosystem. Important that it is to showcase the capabilities of Nihilium in combination of other (embedded) wallets, keyless is not meant to be a separate wallet or product. The use-case it shows is social recovery based on ZKEmail with an onchain ERC7579 module for timelock enforcement, however, Nihilium, the protocol, does support much more methods for recovery.
How it's made
It is a browser based wallet based on privy, and the privy app is used as a smart account. Nihilium Recovery is used to seal randomness from which a guardian key is generated. A guardian key is generated for all supported chains but here only sepolia is used. This is relevant because an app might integrate more than a single chain, so being able to recover multi-chain is a must. Nihilium itself is an open source public good protocol (see the nihilium-core repo) for generalized agnostic key recovery. The protocol works off-chain, so the ZKEmail recovery verification itself doesn't require any transactions. It reconstructs the randomness required to generate the key of which the public key is a simple guardian of a ERC7579. How the nihilium protocol works cannot be explained here and I refer to the website nihilium.io
