About
Freelancers who invoice clients abroad wait 30 to 60 days to get paid, and have no way to borrow against that invoice while they wait. Banks won't underwrite a $2,000 receivable from a sole trader in Malang — the diligence costs more than the loan. Forfait tokenizes an unpaid invoice as a zero-coupon bond using Hedera's Asset Tokenization Studio. Face value is the invoice amount, maturity is the due date. A funder buys it at a discount today; when the client pays at maturity, settlement and distribution execute automatically. Every state change — submitted, verified, funded, paid, settled — is written to the Hedera Consensus Service as a tamper-evident audit trail, while the invoice document itself stays off-chain and only its hash is published. This is forfaiting: the non-recourse purchase of cross-border receivables at a discount. It is a century-old trade finance instrument. Forfait makes it work at ticket sizes where the paperwork used to cost more than the deal.
How it's made
The security token is issued through Asset Tokenization Studio (ERC-1400) on Hedera's EVM layer, using the ATS SDK rather than hand-rolled contracts — so compliance controls like control lists, KYC gating, pause, and transfer restrictions come from audited code rather than from me. Maturity settlement uses Hedera Scheduled Transactions with setWaitForExpiry, so the network itself executes the payout on the due date. No cron job, no keeper bot, nothing to keep running. The 62-day ceiling on scheduled transactions is why the product accepts invoices with terms of 60 days or less. The audit trail runs on the Hedera Consensus Service: one topic, one message per lifecycle event, ordered and hash-chained by consensus. Invoice documents never touch the ledger — only a SHA-256 hash, so a funder can verify the document they were shown is the one that was financed, without the pricing becoming public. Privy provides authentication and embedded wallets, so a freelancer signs in with an email and never handles a seed phrase. Reads go through the Hedera Mirror Node REST API. Fees are why this works at ticket sizes banks ignore: I measured a transfer at $0.0001 and an HCS message at $0.00017 on testnet. Financing a $2,000 invoice costs a fraction of a cent in ledger fees.
