    About

BalamOS is "the Grok bot of crypto" — a chat-first agent operating system. You talk to an AI agent that has its own sandboxed Linux desktop, a real crypto wallet, and a toolbox for on-chain work, and you watch it operate live: researching data, paying for services, and driving a browser. Its signature feature is a manual-control handoff — when the agent gets stuck, or hits something only a human should do, it hands you its desktop; you take over, act, and hand control back. Under the hood it enforces financial guardrails (governance spend caps) so the agent can transact autonomously within limits you set. It ships with live integrations: querying on-chain data through The Graph, and discovering and paying for x402-gated services on Hedera with real, verifiable on-chain settlement — no API keys, and no human tapping "confirm" on every step.

    How it's made

BalamOS is a Tauri + React desktop app over a Rust daemon (orbit-daemon) that manages sandboxed Linux "webtop" Docker containers — each agent gets its own isolated XFCE desktop the AI drives via screenshots (scrot) and input (xdotool). The agent runs on opencode with GPT-5.6-Luna; the desktop streams into the app so you can watch and take manual control (a toggle pauses the agent, unlocks the live desktop, then hands back). Crypto capabilities are packaged as zero-dependency Node CLIs baked into the container image, so any coding agent can invoke them: The Graph — a balamos-graph CLI plus an MCP server exposing a query_subgraph tool, auto-wired into the agent's opencode config; verified live returning real Ethereum data. ▎ - Hedera x402 — balamos-x402 pay <url> inspects an x402 paywall, gates the amount against a governance spend cap, signs and submits a real HBAR transfer via the Hiero SDK, then re-requests with an X-PAYMENT proof; the service verifies the transfer against the public Hedera mirror node (no API key). Verified live on testnet with real settlement txns on HashScan. - Governance + Secrets — hard spend caps plus a credential store that injects the agent's wallet key as env vars: the key never enters prompts, logs, or the repo; the daemon signs. - A live treasury dashboard shows balances moving as the agent transacts. Partner tech: Hedera (Hiero SDK + mirror node) gives near-instant, cheap, verifiable settlement that makes autonomous agentic payments practical; The Graph's MCP lets the agent pull on-chain context natively. We also preinstall Foundry (cast/anvil) and MetaMask/HashPack in Chromium so the agent can operate any EVM/Arc chain and dApp.
