About
Why are you participating for Based Africa? As a Nigerian software engineer, I am keen to address critical issues of information integrity faced in african communities. With 0xWitness, we're tackling the issues of centralized control over local news, the spread of unverified information, and the lack of public participation in the news verification process.
How it's made
What challenges are you focusing on? Oxwitness is addressing the challenge of misinformation and unverified reports in local communities. Misinformation can spread rapidly, and it’s often difficult for people to discern what's true from what's false. This lack of verification undermines trust and can exacerbate issues like insecurity, unrest, and social division. How does your submission address this challenge? Oxwitness leverages Base Sepolia and EAS to create a decentralized platform where: Local events can be reported by community members. The public can attest to the truthfulness of these reports. A resolver contract ensures each user can only attest once, preventing manipulation. All attestations are recorded on-chain, providing transparency and immutability. This system empowers communities to collectively verify information, reducing reliance on centralized news sources and combating misinformation.
