    Veystone

An expansive MMORPG low on graphics, high on backend tech

    About

The problem it solves With many gamers still off-chain, there is a big opportunity for large blockchains to onboard them and increase their traffic. Gamers don't really care whether their characters, items and in-game gold sit in a SQL database or on the blockchain, but they do care about transaction speeds, loading times and ease of use. For Veystone I focused on seamless backend tech including paymasters, account abstraction and MMORPG networking, and decided to use simple graphics instead. It aims to serve as a model for the future of gaming -- ERC20 in-game gold, ERC721 characters defined in the URI, ERC721 items defined in IPFS metadata, built on an MMORPG engine so everyone plays together.

    How it's made

Challenges we ran into Certain Thirdweb API calls in Unity were very slow. Instead we used raw Nethereum calls for things like balance updates. Getting browser support was also very challenging for this MMO, as Websocket transports thru a browser are more complicated than from a desktop or phone. To be honest the stability of the server is questionable.
