Tutorial on octant v2 using a TAM demo

building a tokenized allocation mechanism for aDAO

    About

The problem it solves In most DAOs, decision-making and fund allocation often struggle with centralization, unclear governance processes, and lack of transparency. Even when members hold tokens, there’s rarely a trustless mechanism that fairly translates those holdings into real influence or funding power. The Tokenized Allocation Mechanism (TAM) demonstrated through DAOTAM4 — solves this by automating how proposals are created, voted on, finalized, and funded entirely onchain. It enables small or large DAOs to: + Register members transparently and prevent duplicate sign-ups. + Vote using ERC-20 tokens as governance weight. +Set proposal deadlines to ensure time-bound decision-making. +Automatically allocate treasury funds based on community consensus. This makes governance simpler, safer, and more verifiable, turning decentralized communities into truly self-managed ecosystems powered by transparent logic rather than trust.

    How it's made

Challenges we ran into One major challenge was aligning Octant’s modular TAM framework with a simplified, ERC-20–based DAO design. I had to make the contract both technically accurate and educational, ensuring the voting, quorum, and allocation logic stayed consistent with Octant’s base contracts while still being easy for readers to follow. Handling proposal deadlines and quorum thresholds introduced edge cases, especially when voters registered late or proposals expired mid-cycle. I refined the logic multiple times to ensure votes after deadlines were rejected and that quorum calculations adapted dynamically. Another hurdle was maintaining the balance between readability and correctness. Writing a reliable guide carefully breaking down each function, testing it, and re-explaining it in a way new folks can understand. Every challenge reinforced the spirit of Octant v2 — modular, transparent, and empowering for builders and communities alike.
