About
Why are you participating for Based Africa? We are participating in the Based Africa Buildathon because we believe in the transformative power of blockchain technology to address real-world problems in Africa. The continent has immense potential, yet it faces challenges that could be better solved through decentralized solutions. We are deeply connected to this region as someone who has witnessed the struggles of local communities, especially in areas like agriculture and commodity trade, where middlemen, inefficiencies, and lack of transparency cause significant challenges. By participating, We hope to contribute to the financial inclusion and economic empowerment of African communities.
How it's made
What challenges are you focusing on? The primary challenge we are addressing is the inefficiency and lack of trust in commodity markets. Many farmers and small-scale sellers struggle to get fair prices for their products due to middlemen and lack of market access. Buyers, on the other hand, often find it difficult to verify the authenticity and quality of products. With the help of Base, We focusing on creating a transparent, decentralized platform where sellers and buyers can engage directly, bypassing intermediaries and ensuring fairer, more secure transactions. How does your submission address this challenge? TradeBridge, the decentralized commodity marketplace we are building, enables sellers to list their commodities for sale while buyers can purchase them using blockchain technology. Smart contracts are used to ensure transparency and automate the entire process, from listing to payment and delivery. By leveraging Base’s blockchain infrastructure, TradeBridge offers an immutable ledger that records transactions, ensuring accountability and reducing fraud. This will empower local farmers and sellers, giving them direct access to buyers while offering buyers a transparent way to purchase goods. The potential impact is improved market efficiency, fairer pricing, and enhanced trust in the commodity trade sector. Challenges we ran into One of the key challenges we encountered was setting up a decentralized marketplace with efficient smart contracts that could handle complex commodity transactions, such as varying prices, delivery terms, and dispute resolution. Initially, we faced issues with integrating a fair payment system that releases funds to sellers only upon successful delivery confirmation by the buyer.
