    TrackChain

Effortlessly record and track the complete ownership history of your items.

    About

Why are you participating for Based Africa? We are participating for Base Africa because it represents an incredible opportunity to drive meaningful change in the blockchain space. Base, with its open and decentralised platform, opens the door to innovation by allowing developers to create and deploy secure, transparent solutions like never before. Moreover, Base provides a solid infrastructure for building these decentralised applications without the limitations of traditional systems. The scalability, security, and flexibility offered by Base are unmatched, which allows us to explore new possibilities and solve real-world problems more effectively. The potential to build something that could improve the way people interact with technology, whether it’s in finance, governance, or ownership tracking, is what excites us the most. But beyond the technology, what truly sets Base apart is its community. It’s a space where developers, creators, and innovators come together to collaborate, share ideas, and push the boundaries of what's possible. The energy and enthusiasm within the Base ecosystem are contagious. It’s an environment where ideas are nurtured, and the community actively supports one another in their journey to build decentralised, secure solutions. Being part of this vibrant, forward-thinking community means that we're not just building for ourselves, but for a larger purpose that could benefit everyone involved in the ecosystem.

    How it's made

What challenges are you focusing on? In summary, TrackChain addresses the challenges of verifying authentic ownership and ensuring secure and transparent transfers. How does your submission address this challenge? This project tackles the challenge of verifying authentic ownership by leveraging blockchain technology, which inherently provides a decentralised and tamper-resistant ledger for recording and tracking ownership. Every item stored on the blockchain is assigned a unique identifier (Item ID), and its ownership history is permanently recorded, ensuring that once an item is added to the system, its ownership record cannot be altered or manipulated. By using smart contracts, the process of adding and transferring ownership becomes trustless and automated, meaning that the system doesn’t rely on any centralised authority to validate or control ownership changes. This decentralised nature guarantees that ownership records are verified by the blockchain network itself, which ensures authenticity. Moreover, the project provides transparency by making the entire ownership history of an item accessible at any point. Each time an item changes hands, the transfer is recorded on-chain with details such as the previous owner, current owner, and the date of transfer. This creates an immutable chain of custody for every item, allowing anyone to trace its entire history from the moment it was created to its current ownership. This level of transparency fosters trust between buyers and sellers, as they can verify the legitimacy of an item before making a purchase, knowing that the records reflect the true ownership chain. Challenges we ran into One major challenge was implementing a BNS resolver. This was a core functionality of the app as the entry point into the app was the basename and it had to be resolved before the app could proceed. Many of the solutions online dealt with reverse resolution of basenames (getting basename connected to a given wallet). This app needed the reverse (getting the wallet address a basename resolves to). Apparently, resolving a BNS name wasn't as straightforward as resolving an ENS name. So after some reading and researching, we found something on L2Resolvers. Some more searches, and we were able to get the L2Resolver used by Base for BNS resolution and voila!
