Swaniyam
Voice-based legal aid for rural justice
About
The problem it solves The Problem it Solves In rural India, citizens often struggle to access legal systems due to language barriers, digital illiteracy, and lack of awareness. Filing complaints online is especially hard for those who cannot read or write English or use complex websites. Swaniyam solves this problem by acting as a voice-based, multilingual legal assistant. It allows users to: File legal complaints through simple voice commands in their native language Get guidance on legal rights and procedures without needing a lawyer Avoid long travel or paperwork by accessing digital services from their phone This makes the legal process more accessible, inclusive, and efficient — especially for those who need it the most. Smart Contract Address(es) Not yet deployed. Currently under development. Smart contract for NyayaCoin and complaint verification module is in progress. Will be deployed soon. How it's made
Challenges we ran into Challenges I Ran Into One of the major challenges was implementing accurate voice recognition for multiple regional languages. Many speech recognition models perform poorly with rural dialects or accents. Another issue was integrating voice input with a smooth GUI using Python Tkinter, while also ensuring the system could handle encryption and data verification securely. We faced hurdles like: Microphone not capturing input properly Assistant not responding to some commands Difficulty in saving and verifying complaints locally To overcome these, we: Tweaked the microphone configuration and tested multiple libraries (like SpeechRecognition, pyttsx3) Handled errors and edge cases in command processing Broke the features into small testable modules and fixed issues one-by-one These hurdles taught us valuable lessons in debugging and real-world user testing.
