About
Why are you participating for Based Africa? We are participating in Based Africa because we are passionately committed to empowering individuals and communities across the African continent through accessible Web3 technologies. Start3’s mission to onboard the next billion users into Web3 aligns seamlessly with the innovative spirit and rapid technological adoption happening throughout Africa. Our motivation stems from recognizing Africa’s unique position as a hub for technological innovation in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space. The continent is home to a young, tech-savvy population that is eager to embrace new technologies to drive economic growth and social development. We are a team of Africans coming together to solve one of the biggest challenge that excludes most of our people from the benefits that web3 bring to the table. Additional Features ## Additional Features During the Buildathon, we focused on significant enhancements to **Start3** that both expanded its functionality and improved the overall user experience: ### 1. Smart Contract Integration We took a major step forward by adding **smart contracts** to the platform. This allows us to bring more decentralization and transparency to the onboarding process, especially when it comes to rewarding users for completing flows. Users can now interact with smart contracts that handle rewards, staking, and NFT issuance, making the platform more secure and trustless. ### 2. User-Generated Onboarding Flows One of the biggest improvements we made during the Buildathon was empowering users to **create their own onboarding flows**. This feature opens up the platform to a wide range of use cases, allowing individuals and organizations to design and share custom flows that fit their unique Web3 onboarding needs. Users can now create flows with tailored steps, reward systems, and educational modules, making the platform more versatile. ### 3. UI/UX Improvements We invested significant time in improving the **user interface (UI)** to make the onboarding experience smoother and more intuitive. Some of the key improvements include: - A cleaner, more responsive design that adjusts seamlessly across devices. - Streamlined navigation, making it easier for users to move through the onboarding flows. - Enhanced visual elements such as **interactive progress bars**, dynamic messaging with our AI assistant BlockBuddy, and real-time feedback during onboarding tasks. These UI enhancements play a huge role in improving the **user experience (UX)**, ensuring that even users unfamiliar with blockchain technology can easily navigate the platform.
How it's made
What challenges are you focusing on? ## Challenges We Are Focusing On Through **Start3**, we are addressing several key challenges that are hindering broader adoption of Web3 technologies, especially within Africa. These challenges include: ### 1. Lack of Web3 Education and Awareness Many people are unfamiliar with blockchain, decentralized finance (DeFi), and cryptocurrency concepts. This lack of knowledge creates a barrier to entry into the Web3 ecosystem. ### 2. Complicated Onboarding Process The process of creating wallets, managing private keys, and understanding blockchain transactions can be overwhelming, particularly for newcomers with no prior experience in Web3. ### 3. Limited Accessibility and Inclusion Africa’s diversity in language, access to stable internet, and varying levels of digital literacy pose challenges for many to adopt Web3 solutions. There is a need for tools that cater to a wide range of users, particularly in rural or underserved communities. ### 4. Financial Exclusion Many people across the African continent still face challenges with accessing traditional financial systems. Web3 provides an opportunity for financial inclusion, but accessibility to these decentralized solutions is still limited. How does your submission address this challenge? ## How Start3 and Base Are Addressing These Challenges With the help of **Base**, we are tackling these challenges head-on in the following ways: ### 1. AI-Powered Education Start3’s AI assistant, **BlockBuddy**, simplifies complex blockchain concepts through personalized and interactive learning modules. These modules break down key topics like wallet creation, cryptocurrency use, DeFi, and NFTs, making them accessible to people of all backgrounds. ### 2. Simplified Onboarding Our platform reduces the friction of getting started with Web3 by offering step-by-step guided onboarding flows. Users can create wallets, learn security best practices, and explore decentralized applications without the need for prior knowledge. ### 3. Multi-Language We’re implementing multi-language support for African languages ### 4. Rewards and Incentives To incentivize participation, users who complete onboarding flows are rewarded with cryptocurrency, NFTs, or staking benefits, encouraging deeper engagement with Web3 solutions. This approach helps bridge the financial inclusion gap by empowering users with real, tangible rewards. Challenges we ran into ## Challenges We Ran Into ### 1. Incomplete or Non-Functional Code from Documentation One of the technical hurdles we faced was encountering code snippets in official documentation that didn’t work as expected. Sometimes, these snippets were either outdated, missing crucial steps, or too simplified for our use case. This slowed down certain aspects of development. **How We Overcame It:** - We conducted deeper research into developer communities to identify workarounds and solutions for the gaps in documentation. - In cases where official documentation was lacking, we relied on reading the source code of libraries and tools to understand the missing pieces and adapt them to our project. - Additionally, we would like to contributed back by improving the documentation through pull requests or sharing our findings with the broader Base community. ### 2. Integrating Multiple APIs and Tools Integrating various APIs, including wallet creation, blockchain transaction processing, and AI for onboarding flows, introduced complexities. Each tool had its own issues, and getting them to work together seamlessly is challenging. **How We Overcame It:** - We dedicated time to understanding each logic thoroughly, setting up sandbox environments to test integrations before moving to the production environment.
