    About

The problem it solves Splitting expenses in group settings—like dinners, trips, or shared services—can often be confusing and inconvenient. Keeping track of who owes what, coordinating payments, and ensuring fairness usually involves multiple apps or awkward conversations. SplitMate simplifies this by: 💬 Enabling group coordination through XMTP-powered messaging ⚡ Facilitating instant crypto payments on the Base blockchain 🔐 Letting users securely connect and pay via Coinbase Wallet 📱 Delivering a smooth, Web3-native experience for expense sharing SplitMate brings clarity and ease to group payments, making it simple to split and settle bills—directly within your chat.

    How it's made

Challenges we ran into While building SplitMate, we encountered several technical challenges: 1. XMTP Integration Issues Setting up XMTP for group chat messaging initially failed due to connection inconsistencies and client authentication problems. We resolved this by thoroughly reading the XMTP docs and ensuring wallet signatures were correctly handled during the connection flow. 2. Coinbase Wallet Connection Bugs Connecting the Coinbase Wallet using the @coinbase/onchainkit package occasionally returned undefined or delayed wallet address data. This was due to improper handling of hydration and useEffect dependencies in Next.js. We fixed it by conditionally checking the connection state and deferring logic until the wallet was fully mounted.
