    About

The problem it solves ### The problem it solves The global skateboard market is worth roughly **USD 3.2–3.6 billion as of 2023–2024**, and is forecasted to grow steadily at around **3–4% CAGR**, targeting **over USD 4 billion by the early 2030s**. Estimates suggest **85 million people worldwide have tried skateboarding**, with about **11 million active skateboarders globally**, and nearly **9 million participants** in the U.S. alone—demonstrating a massive engaged market. Skate culture is driven by **tight-knit, expert communities**—crews, micro-brands, content creators—that thrive on authentic content, challenge culture, and niche commerce. Yet most Web2 platforms fail to support content ownership, rewards, or on-chain monetization for these groups. **Skatehive Miniapp** addresses this by layering on **Base-compatible features** and **Zora coin tooling**. You can: - Create **Zora coins for posts** on the Base network—turning content into collectible tokens. - Set up **airdrops** using whitelisted ERC-20 tokens to reward user participation. - Leverage **send/receive wallet flows** for engagement and rewards. - Publish community posts into **Skatehive’s Infinity Magazine**, a flipbook-style zine for skate media. - Create great video experience for farcaster ecosystem Skatehive uses **Base-app-friendly miniapp flows** via Base’s MiniKit SDK for wallet integration and Zora operations that align with Base’s environment Because it’s modular and open-source, any crew, creator, or skate micro-brand can fork it and join a federated network—onboarding audiences on-chain, distributing product drops, and building culture. This empowers **niche skate communities**, already deeply engaged and culturally influential, to lead the way in bringing skateboarding—and its commerce—onto web3. How it's made

Challenges we ran into Skatehive is a collective effort of skateboarders that met in web3 *lonelyverse*, it was made with zero funding and when it started none of us knew how to code at all until we tried as hard as learning to kickflip. Onboarding skaters into webapps as very very hard, just a few owned computers, using web3 with theirs shitty phones was hell and the number of platforms the user had to use to perform a simple action was insane. Its great that the friction is dissolving and the community is growing and onboarding each other.
