The problem it solves There are only a limited number of ways in which a creator can monetize their content. Most of the times it's either sponsorships, for which they have to compromise with the content quality, or ads, which pays peanuts unless you're in the top 10%. So, there's always a dependency on others for you to make money out of your own creation. Doesn't sound fair, does it?
