Manta Polling
Decentralized polling system on Manta Network for transparent and secure community decision-making.
About
The problem it solves Manta Polls addresses the need for transparent and tamper-resistant polling systems in decentralized communities. It allows users to create and participate in polls without relying on centralized authorities, ensuring the integrity of voting processes. By leveraging blockchain technology, it provides: Transparency: All poll data is stored on-chain, allowing for public verification. Immutability: Once a vote is cast, it cannot be altered or deleted. Accessibility: Anyone with a Manta Network wallet can participate, promoting inclusivity. Real-time results: Vote tallies are updated instantly, providing immediate feedback. Cost-effectiveness: Utilizing Manta Network's low-fee structure makes polling economically viable for various scales of decision-making. This solution is particularly useful for DAOs, online communities, and any group seeking a fair and transparent way to gauge opinion or make collective decisions.
How it's made
Challenges we ran into As a solo developer with limited coding experience, I faced numerous challenges throughout this project: Scope Management: Initially, I had a grand vision for a complex decentralized application. My first challenge was scaling down this vision to create a basic, functional product within the hackathon timeframe. This required swallowing my pride and focusing on building something simple that actually worked. Front-End Development: While creating the smart contract was relatively straightforward, integrating it with a front-end proved to be a significant hurdle. I attempted to build a front-end from scratch multiple times using AI assistance, but encountered endless integration issues. The breakthrough came when I discovered ShadcnUI, which allowed me to quickly deploy a basic front-end. Even then, it took numerous iterations to successfully integrate it with my deployed smart contract. Learning New Technologies: This project pushed me to work with technologies I had never used before, including TypeScript and Node.js. Each new technology introduced its own set of challenges and learning curves. Deployment Struggles: Once I had a working local version, deploying the application to the web presented a whole new set of obstacles. I encountered numerous errors related to TypeScript and Next.js, technologies I was unfamiliar with before this project. Leveraging AI for Problem-Solving: A significant part of my development process involved using AI, particularly Claude, to debug issues and overcome technical hurdles. This experience highlighted how far AI has come in assisting with development tasks, especially for newcomers to coding. Despite these challenges, I'm proud to have created a functional decentralized polling system. This experience has been invaluable in teaching me about blockchain development, front-end integration, and the power of persistence in overcoming technical challenges.
