About
The problem it solves Problem Statement Every day, millions go hungry — not because there isn’t enough food, but because resources are not distributed fairly. The Facts: Nearly 20% of urban households in Malaysia face some level of food insecurity, with financial constraints being the primary reason, according to the 2022 Malaysia Household Income and Basic Amenities Survey. 828 million people worldwide suffer from hunger (UN). World Bank data from 2019 indicated that 2.5% of the population (938,000 people) were experiencing hunger. The adjusted poverty line in 2022 showed 5.6% of the population (1.83 million) living below the poverty line, according to NST Online. The Challenges: Lack of Transparency: Donors often worry that their funds or donations may be misused or not reach the intended recipients. Inefficient Processes: Manual donation systems can lead to delays, errors, and increased risk of fraud, reducing the effectiveness of aid distribution. Hunger Crisis: Many vulnerable groups still lack reliable access to basic nutrition and essential food supplies.
How it's made
Challenges we ran into Challenge Encountered: Managing One-Time Verification Codes One of the key hurdles we faced was ensuring that the unique verification codes for recipients could only be used once. Initially, we stored used codes only in memory (a Python set), which meant that once the server restarted, the data was lost. This caused issues where codes could be reused unintentionally, compromising the system’s security and fairness. How We Overcame It To solve this, we implemented persistent storage by saving used codes to a text file. On server startup, the application loads all previously used codes from the file into memory. Every time a code is used, it’s added to the file immediately. This way, the system remembers used codes across restarts, preventing reuse reliably. This fix improved the integrity of our request system and reinforced trust in the platform. It also highlighted the importance of persistent state management in web applications that rely on secure validations.
