    Jam

BUIDLing The Creator Economy on Farcaster.

    Demo

    About

The problem it solves Jam was created as an innovative solution to address issues faced by creators in traditional social media platforms. These platforms tend to have recommendation with opaque algorithm logic, lack easy way for supporters to monetise digital content, yet take bulk of the fees derived from creator content. These centralized platforms also make it difficult to control intellectual property of original creation. Jam is positioned as onchain Instagram with clear rule book. Jam adds monetization layer on top of cast and profile (profile key) in Farcaster protocol, pegging values to social assets. Both cast and profile key are tradable, creating both open market values and promoting liquidity. Furthermore, we enhanced it with a point system that shows up in Jam yard, which encourages users to interact with creators. Jam takes only 5% of fees for each cast or profile key traded, much lower than exorbitant fees charged by traditional social media platforms over advertising fees due to creators. Tradable casts act as a heavier form of "tipping" on Farcaster, as it is onchain and fees goes directly to the creator, verifiable onchain. As contents are posted onchain and on farcaster protocol, creators can retain content even if they switch out of decentralized social platform Jam. Jam's vision is to connect social assets with wider financial ecosystem (eg; DeFi) to unlock the inherent value, allowing social assets to be used as collateral for a loan and more!

    How it's made

Challenges we ran into Onboarding creators, letting them know that we are here for the long term. Also ensuring the experience of the app is good, allowing Jam to be the "go-to" app when casting on Farcaster. Compatibility and Implementation of PWA Applications on Different Devices Challenge: The level of support for PWA (Progressive Web Apps) varies across different devices and browsers, leading to potential issues with page interactions or display on some devices. In addition, achieving near-native app functionalities, such as push notifications and Passkey settings, requires addressing compatibility issues across different devices and browsers. Solution: The team ensure that core functionalities run smoothly on all devices by conducting extensive device testing and using progressive enhancement techniques. We utilize modern web APIs and service workers to handle functionalities like push notifications. We also implemented conditional loading and adapter patterns to ensure stable functionality across various devices. /// Integrating Built-in Wallets Challenge: Ensuring the stability of requests when reading information from the blockchain and conducting transactions, and seamlessly switching to backup servers in case of an RPC server outage. Solution: Implement an automatic switching mechanism for multiple RPC nodes to ensure high availability. Use transaction management and error handling mechanisms to guarantee the reliability and stability of the transaction process. /// Performance Optimization of PWA Challenge: Optimizing the lazy loading of long lists and images, and maintaining high performance akin to native apps. Solution: We adopted virtual scrolling and the observer API for efficient loading. We adopted appropriate caching strategies and background sync technology to enhance Jam application’s persistence and responsiveness. Furthermore, we had to optimize advance features to achieve better performance on all supported devices.
