About
Why are you participating for Based Africa? Our connection to Africa runs deep. We've witnessed the challenges facing innovation and technology. Joining Base Africa allows us to leverage this opportunity to solve problems and inspire fellow African builders to know building on-chain is possible and it's the future of economy. As a startup building on Base, we see Base as a nurturing ecosystem and home for builders, because it provides equal opportunities and support, empowering every builder to grow. Its infrastructure offers valuable exposure for projects tackling real-world problems, fostering innovation and impact. Additional Features whatever feature you see in this Mvp were all built during the buildathon period , although we are still integrating and pushing more development so, that we can meet up the final deployment on mainnet
How it's made
What challenges are you focusing on? 1. Artistist exploitation. Firstly we believe artists should have full ownership and total control over their creations, ideas, creativity and most especially their earnings. sadly it's a different thing on most platforms and art galleries, where the platform controls the earnings, the art, and even the artists themselves. some don't even pay artists, some even manipulate sales which affects Some artists don't even have access to 25% of what their art earns because the platform has taken over 75% of the earnings for themselves, this is sad, looking at the efforts artists put into creating their crafts. 2. Digital Barriers to Global Growth Africa's thriving art scene is hindered by digital accessibility issues, limiting artists' global reach and growth. Many of us here in Africa, have limited access to Payment Options (US Dollar-Only), which excludes African artists without dollar-denominated bank accounts or credit/debit cards. Also, Restricted Bank Accounts and Debit/Credit Cards and Stringent regulations hinder access to international payments, forcing costly workarounds. Exclusion from global art transactions limits international sales, collaborations, and exposure. Limited market access hinders showcasing work, building networks, and establishing themselves. Financial constraints stifle artistic growth, limiting creative output, innovation, and potential. 3. Privacy Maintaining financial privacy online is increasingly challenging. Many individuals struggle to keep their financial footprint private, hindering transactions. Seeking financial privacy is driven by security concerns, safeguarding against cyber threats and data breaches, Personal freedom, making choices without unwarranted observation, anonymity, protecting identity and maintaining confidentiality and also protection from unwarranted surveillance, ensuring autonomy. How does your submission address this challenge? Craftiax is a fully on-chain decentralized art exhibition gallery, that publicly showcases collections of creative works by artists and creators, sharing the artist vision, inspiring dialogue, and providing an opportunity for viewers to appreciate and interpret the art. Craftiax also allows creators to earn from people appreciating their crafts. Craftiax is not market place, rather, it is a "Flare-to-earn" platform. it converts each appreciation in the form of flares to creator earnings. This is how "Flare-to-earn" works When creators put their Art up for exhibition, people who love the Art, click on the flare button on the art, when they click the flare, it encourages explorers to appreciate the art by tipping the artist any amount from 0.5$ cap at 100$ per explorer. This means that as people flare a particular art, it turns to earning for creators. Solutions to problems. 1. Full control/ ownership over the Art and earnings On Craftiax, earning is fully decentralized. Every flare goes directly into the creator's wallet. There is no middleman, no escrow, no transfer of ownership. The platform will not save the earnings to pay creators later, which means there will be no embezzlement of funds. The platform gets 5% from each flare as a platform maintenance fee, which is very fair, open and transparent. 2. Access to digital currencies Unlike web2, where African artists face exclusion from global art transactions, limited market access, and stifled growth due to financial constraints, all transactions on Craftiax will be done on-chain with Majorly USDC on base and other local stables verified on the Base network. Which means anybody, anywhere in the world can participate, giving wider reach and exposure to the Art and the Artists. 3. privacy. On Craftiax we don't need your bank details, we don't need your SSN, we don't need your credit card details those are personal to you. All you need is a secure wallet on the Base network recommending, coinbase smart wallet. Challenges we ran into The major challenge we had was the time frame, we already had this idea and solution 2 weeks before the announcement of the buildathon. We never intended to start the development of the product now, because according to our roadmap, we should start the Design phase in November, and after 1 month we will start the development phase, because of the technicality and complexity of the product. Nevertheless, when the announcement was made,as a team we needed to channel all resources to be able to present our MVP for the buildathon. As a start-up that has built successful web2 products and solutions, we want to put out something excellent for the buildathon, so we channeled all our effort to build the MVP to a stage, where it can Demonstrate what is being built. It was not easy but we have been in this type of situation before.
