Octant Atlas
Where TradFi Comes to Learn!
About
The problem it solves I've spent 25 years in traditional finance — building systems for Mastercard, Citi, and JP Morgan. When I first encountered Octant v2, I was overwhelmed by its complexity. But I was also stunned by something else: its potential to fundamentally reshape how we fund public goods. For the first time, I saw a DeFi protocol that wasn't just about yields — it was about channeling those yields toward collective impact. That realization changed everything for me. The Problem I Saw (And Solved) Most developers approaching Octant face the same wall I did: Architecture overload: Vaults, strategies, splitters, allocation mechanisms, governance layers — where do you even start? Missing visual context: Dense technical docs without clear diagrams of how money flows No TradFi translation: Crypto-native terminology alienates the exact people who should be building with this (treasury managers, endowments, DAOs) So I made a choice: Instead of building a product, I'd build the educational bridge that Octant needs to reach its full potential. I focused 100% of my hackathon time on this tutorial track — because I believe teaching others to build is more valuable than building alone. What I Built The Octant v2 Developer Portal — a comprehensive learning ecosystem that transforms complexity into clarity: ✅ 100+ documentation pages structured for progressive learning ✅ 45+ interactive diagrams showing every critical flow (deposits → yield → allocation → governance) ✅ TradFi translation layer — "Alice's Journey" narratives that map Octant to mutual funds, NAV, and treasury management ✅ Production-ready code — full Aave V3 strategy with Foundry tests ✅ AI learning assistant trained on 615+ Octant docs for instant help ✅ 7 persona journeys from conservative investors to DAO treasuries Why This Matters This tutorial doesn't just explain Octant — it empowers traditional finance professionals like me to understand how DeFi yield can become sustainable public goods funding. By bridging the TradFi-to-crypto knowledge gap, I'm helping unlock Octant's adoption among: Endowments looking to turn idle reserves into impact DAOs seeking transparent treasury management Institutional investors exploring regenerative finance Developers who want to build yield-to-impact applications The Result After completing this tutorial, anyone — from Solidity experts to JPMorgan treasury managers — can: Understand Octant's architecture visually and conceptually Build their first yield strategy with copy-paste code Deploy a multi-strategy vault and test allocations Translate Octant's potential to non-crypto stakeholders This tutorial transforms learning into building — and building into impact. It's the resource I wish I had when I started. Now it's here for everyone. Live Portal: https://octant-developer-portal.vercel.app
How it's made
Challenges we ran into Challenges I Ran Into Challenge 1: Learning as My Own Student Coming from 25 years in TradFi, I quickly realized how foreign Octant’s language felt. Vaults, yield skimming, quadratic funding—none of it clicked at first. Fix: I translated everything into terms I knew: vaults = mutual funds, yield donating = dividend reinvestment. That perspective became the foundation of the tutorial’s “TradFi track,” built for people just like me. Challenge 2: Making the Invisible Visible Octant’s flows were hard to picture. Fix: I designed 40+ color-coded diagrams that show deposits, yield, and governance in motion. Seeing it made everything click—for me and for others. Challenge 3: Teaching With Smarter AI Generic AI couldn’t explain Octant clearly. Fix: I trained a custom model using 600+ Octant docs so builders can hit Ask AI and get precise, context-aware help. Challenge 4: Balancing Depth and Simplicity Early testers got lost in technical pages. Fix: I rebuilt navigation into a clear flow—Overview → Diagrams → Tutorials → Developer Guide—so anyone can learn at their own pace. Lesson: My TradFi background became my superpower. I built the tutorial I needed—one that finally connects traditional finance thinking with DeFi design.
