    BlockSeed Random

Using on-chain block metadata for transparent and auditable off-chain randomization.

    About

The problem it solves Given contests, giveaways, or other applications that use pseudorandom number generators (PRNGs), how do you prove to participants that the results are free from error and corruption, and that winners are genuine?

    How it's made

Challenges we ran into Many technical hurdles, mostly around designing a system that is difficult for a host/creator to tamper with. The host sets the initial parameters for the randomization event, they do not know the seed value until it happens at a specifically defined block height in the future. Consequently, all participants can watch a randomization event (eg. shuffling of names) live and all have the ability to audit the results after the fact since the seed value will be reviewed at the block height. The seed value is unknown by all until the block height occurs. It is essentially using on-chain data to "reveal" an off-chain result.
