    About

Why are you participating for Based Africa? As an AI and Web3 Advocate based in Lusaka, Zambia, I am passionate about integrating technology with local communities in innovative ways. This project aligns with my mission to drive blockchain adoption in Zambia by creating engaging, on-ground experiences that demystify crypto technology. Participating in Based Africa allows me to connect with like-minded innovators, showcase the potential of crypto in everyday life, and help make blockchain technology accessible and practical for the Zambian community. By bringing participants into the crypto ecosystem through an interactive and educational event, I aim to foster a more digitally literate and financially inclusive community. The Based Scavenger Hunt is designed to connect people from all walks of life, allowing them to explore the city while engaging with blockchain technology in an interactive, non-intimidating way. Additional Features The scavenger hunt was designed specifically for the Buildathon. During the event, I created a streamlined registration page integrated with wallet setup instructions, ensuring participants could easily onboard. I also provided educational links about cryptocurrency and how to open a Coinbase wallet to maximize the learning experience during the scavenger hunt.

    How it's made

What challenges are you focusing on? The main challenge being tackled is the lack of awareness and understanding of blockchain and cryptocurrency. Many people, especially in Zambia, are not familiar with how technologies like Base can provide value in their everyday lives. This gap in knowledge and engagement results in low levels of crypto adoption, even though the benefits are significant. By integrating Base into a scavenger hunt format, we’re addressing the challenge by reaching people where they are—around town, in their communities. This interactive method encourages people from diverse backgrounds to explore and learn, making blockchain technology approachable and non-intimidating. It provides a broad reach and captures interest from individuals who might not otherwise engage with the technology. How does your submission address this challenge? This project uses a citywide scavenger hunt as an exciting and interactive way to onboard people to Base. People will search for stickers with QR codes located throughout the city, and these codes guide them to set up their Coinbase wallets. Each participant becomes a part of the base ecosystem while enjoying a fun, in real life gamified experience. This format is a great way to spark organic growth because it reaches a diverse group of individuals—from students and workers to marketeers and entrepreneurs. The scavenger hunt not only ignites immediate curiosity, but it also introduces participants to the practical applications of blockchain technology, showing them its real-world utility and the potential to win amazing prizes. This broad engagement paves the way for continuous interaction with Base and increases awareness in a memorable, engaging way. Furthermore, it builds excitement naturally attracting even more people to join in. This project is scalable and can be adopted in different locations, from cities to rural areas. Challenges we ran into We encountered a few technical and logistical challenges during the scavenger hunt project. One major hurdle was ensuring that participants felt comfortable with downloading and using cryptocurrency wallets, as many had never interacted with blockchain technology before. Additionally, transportation for the team was another challenge, as moving around the city to distribute stickers required funding which we took upon ourselves. We also offered brief, hands-on learning sessions to guide potential participants who saw us sticking the qr codes. We walked them through what the scavenger hunt is all about, setting up their wallets and understanding how Blockchain works.
