Permissionless Pay-Per-Chat Agents Marketplace

About
The problem it solves The AI agent economy is trapped in a fragmented, centralized paradigm where builders must choose between building expensive platforms from scratch or surrendering control and revenue to restrictive marketplaces, while users face a broken discovery experience scattered across incompatible ecosystems with prohibitive gas fees, complex payment flows, and censorship. This creates a vicious cycle: talented builders abandon promising agents due to monetization barriers, users can't find quality agents through the noise, and the entire ecosystem stagnates under the weight of centralized gatekeepers who extract value while providing minimal infrastructure. XMTP Agent Hub breaks this cycle by architecting the world's first truly permissionless agent economy by integrating XMTP's censorship-resistant communication layer with Coinbase Smart Wallet's spend permission, Base network's scalability, gas sponsoring, and ENS-powered identity and discoverability systems. This isn't just another marketplace; it's a fundamental reimagining of how AI agents are built, discovered, and monetized. Builders gain instant global distribution with per-message revenue streams requiring zero platform development, users access a unified, gasless discovery experience with automatic identity resolution, and the entire ecosystem benefits from XMTP's privacy-first, decentralized infrastructure that no single entity can control or censor.
How it's made
Challenges we ran into The agent hub enables users to subscribe to agents and interact with them while compensating agents through micro-fees per message. Currently, subscriptions are platform-dependent because users must execute sponsored onchain transactions and sign messages through our interface. The proposed solution involves implementing two new content types for signature handling and transaction propagation, which would enable cross-platform subscriptions and create a generalized subscription mechanism that removes platform dependency. This approach would provide a platform-agnostic subscription process, improve user experience across different interfaces, and enable more flexible integration possibilities for third-party platforms.
