    VendingAgent

Autonomous pay-per-call API proxy using Hedera x402 and Chainlink CRE for agentic workflows.

    About

This project is an autonomous pay-per-call API proxy (VendingAgent) designed for the emerging Agentic Economy. It solves the problem of AI agents needing rigid subscriptions or hardcoded API keys to access premium Web2 data. Using Hedera's x402 standard, it gates a premium data endpoint, requiring autonomous agents to stream sub-cent micro-transactions in HBAR to unlock the payload. Furthermore, to protect the upstream Web2 API key from being exposed on-chain or leaked in the logs, the project utilizes Chainlink's CRE Confidential Workflows (running inside a hardware TEE enclave) to securely fetch and return the data. We also integrated Bazantic MCP Recipes so other autonomous agents can easily discover, understand, and autonomously interact with the service.

    How it's made

We built the backend API proxy using Node.js and TypeScript, integrating the @hashgraph/sdk to verify x402 micropayments on the Hedera testnet via the Blocky402 facilitator. The core data fetching logic is handled by a Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) handlerInTee script. This script securely decrypts the upstream Web2 API key exclusively inside a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) enclave, ensuring the secret never leaks to the public while executing the confidential workflow. To make the service discoverable, we created a Bazantic Model Context Protocol (MCP) server alongside a recipe.json file that instructs any consumer LLM on exactly how to construct the HBAR transaction and request the data. Finally, a separate autonomous client agent script was written to simulate the end-to-end HTTP 402 payment negotiation and successful data retrieval loop.
