Borrow cheaper by selling volatility
About
The problem it solves In today's DeFi lending landscape (as of January 2026), borrowers face persistently high borrowing costs even when markets are volatilebecause standard protocols (Aave, Morpho, Compound forks) only charge utilization-based interest without any mechanism to offset that cost using the very volatility that's driving up rates. At the same time, advanced DeFi users who understand options vaults (like those from Thetanuts Finance) are manually farming premiums in separate positions, but they can't easily combine that yield with leverage or borrowing needs. This creates friction, opportunity cost, and risk: Borrowers pay full interest rates (often 8–20%+ APR in volatile periods) without hedging or offsetting tools. Volatility sellers (covered call / put sellers) earn premium income but usually do so in isolated positions without leverage. Capital efficiency is low: collateral sits idle or earns suboptimal yield while borrowers overpay. Retail users avoid complex options strategies due to lack of education, UI friction, and liquidation risk misunderstanding. Lenders get stable but low yields in a maturing market where base lending APYs are compressing. What People Can Use Voclin Credit For Voclin Credit turns borrowing into an active, volatility-harvesting activity instead of a passive cost. Users can: Borrow cheaper by selling volatility Deposit collateral (ETH, WBTC, etc.) into Thetanuts Basic Vaults → automatically generate weekly options premiums → directly reduce your borrowing interest rate (often turning 10% APR into 2–4% or even negative net cost in high-IV environments). Choose your risk-reward profile with presets Low-risk mode (covered calls): Sell OTM calls for steady, moderate premium income → suitable for bullish/neutral holders who want lower rates with limited downside protection trade-off. High-volatility mode (put-selling): Sell puts in elevated IV regimes for aggressive premium collection → ideal for traders expecting range-bound or mildly bearish moves, accepting higher liquidation risk for deeper rate discounts. Leverage existing DeFi strategies more efficiently Yield farmers borrow USDC at reduced rates to loop into higher-yield farms. Traders borrow against ETH positions while the collateral is actively earning premium (instead of sitting idle). DAOs and treasuries borrow against reserves at lower effective cost, improving capital efficiency. Earn boosted yields as a lender Supply stablecoins to the pool and earn base interest + a share of the vault premiums generated by borrowers' active collateral → higher, more diversified returns than plain lending pools. Learn and experiment safely with options Gamified missions (“Complete your first covered-call loan”, “Survive 7 days without liquidation warning”) + AI-powered plain-language explanations (“You are selling volatility at 62% IV this should offset ~14% annualized premium against your 9% base rate”) make structured products accessible to intermediate users who previously avoided them. How It Makes Existing Tasks Easier, Safer, or More Profitable Easier: One-click strategy selection and automatic premium routing no manual vault deposits, no separate position management, no epoch timing headaches. Cheaper capital: Dynamic interest offsets turn borrowing from a drag into a yield-generating activity (especially powerful in 2026's volatile macro environment). Safer education: AI risk breakdowns + gamified onboarding reduce the chance of users blindly entering high-risk strategies; real-time health factor updates tied to vault Greeks help avoid surprise liquidations. More capital efficient: Collateral works double-duty (secures loan + generates premium), improving overall DeFi ROI. Composability boost: Vault LP positions can become composable collateral elsewhere (e.g., secondary markets, other protocols), unlocking new primitives. In short: Voclin Credit solves the “paying too much to borrow while volatility is free money sitting on the sidelines” problem by natively merging lending with structured options yield making leverage cheaper, yield farming more efficient, and advanced DeFi strategies approachable for thousands more users.
How it's made
Challenges we ran into The Hurdle: Thetanuts vaults are Arbitrum-native, but VoltzVault is on Base. Bridging collateral (e.g., WETH) to Arbitrum for vault deposit, then handling LP tokens (or synthetic representations) back to Base for collateral use introduced multiple pain points: Asynchronous messaging delays and fee estimation with LayerZero. Ensuring atomicity: If bridging succeeds but vault deposit fails (e.g., epoch timing), funds could get stuck. Dynamic valuation of bridged LP positions on Base (need cross-chain oracle data). Gas optimization for multi-step flows (approve → bridge → deposit → bridge LP back).
