    TrustPay SEA

Secure milestone payments for freelancers in SEA

    About

The problem it solves Freelancers and small businesses in Southeast Asia often face serious payment risks when working on milestone-based projects. Freelancers frequently experience delayed payments or clients disappearing after work has been delivered, while clients hesitate to pay upfront due to uncertainty about whether milestones will be completed as agreed. These trust issues are even more challenging in cross-city or cross-border collaborations, where legal enforcement is slow, expensive, and impractical. TrustPay SEA addresses this problem by providing a blockchain-based milestone escrow system. Funds are securely locked in a smart contract at the start of a project and are released only when each milestone is approved by the client. All transactions and milestone states are transparent, tamper-resistant, and verifiable on-chain. By using blockchain as a neutral and trustless execution layer, TrustPay SEA ensures fair payments, reduces disputes, and creates a safer collaboration environment for freelancers, clients, and SMEs across Southeast Asia.

    How it's made

Challenges we ran into One of the main challenges was designing a milestone escrow system that is secure while remaining simple enough for non-technical users. Smart contracts require strict logic and clear state transitions, especially when handling multiple milestones, approvals, and payment releases. We had to carefully design the contract structure to prevent edge cases such as double payments, premature releases, or locked funds. This was addressed by defining explicit milestone states and enforcing strict access control for each action. Another challenge was creating a user experience that does not feel complex or intimidating like many existing Web3 applications. Most blockchain products expose technical details that are confusing for everyday users. To overcome this, we intentionally designed the interface to resemble familiar invoice and project management workflows, hiding blockchain complexity behind clear actions such as “Fund Project”, “Submit Milestone”, and “Release Payment”. Finally, ensuring the frontend always reflects the correct on-chain state required careful handling of smart contract events. This was solved by mapping contract events directly to UI status updates, ensuring users always see accurate and trustworthy information.
