Tackling Onitsha's waste problem with Base Tech
My project uses blockchain via Base to solve Onitsha’s waste crisis, offering fair pay for collectors and rewarding recycling. Through on-chain governance, i empower the community to manage waste.
About
Why are you participating for Based Africa? I am participating in Based Africa to showcase how blockchain technology can provide tangible solutions to real-world problems like waste management, enhancing transparency, accountability, and community involvement.
How it's made
What challenges are you focusing on? In Onitsha, poor waste management leads to environmental pollution and health risks, exacerbated by inefficient government systems. With Base, I aim to address these challenges by introducing real-time tracking, fair payment for waste collectors, and incentivizing recycling efforts to improve sanitation and public health. How does your submission address this challenge? My blockchain-based system ensures timely waste collection, transparent payment processes, and incentivizes community members to sort and recycle waste. The platform empowers residents by providing real-time data and decentralized decision-making to improve the efficiency of waste management. Challenges we ran into A key technical challenge was ensuring smooth integration between on-chain and off-chain systems for real-world waste collection logistics. I overcame this by incorporating IoT devices into waste bins to trigger smart contracts for timely collection, ensuring seamless synchronization between blockchain data and real-world actions.
