    About

Why are you participating for Based Africa? Participating in Based Africa supports inclusion by giving the web2 population simple access to decentralized finance. The opportunity to build decentralized financial solutions like wallets, fiat-to-crypto conversion, and staking enables people in Africa to participate in the global economy. The project meets local needs by providing a multilingual platform in Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba, making crypto more accessible to local communities. This project aligns with the mission of addressing real-world financial challenges faced by the population in Africa.

    How it's made

What challenges are you focusing on? In an era where blockchain technology and decentralized finance (DeFi) are rapidly gaining traction, accessibility and inclusivity remain critical challenges—especially in countries with diverse linguistic and regulatory landscapes like Nigeria. Our team has recognized this gap and is developing a Multilingual Wallet App designed specifically for the Nigerian community. This app simplifies cryptocurrency transactions while offering users opportunities to stake their funds for yields, all in a decentralized and secure manner. How does your submission address this challenge? The Multilingual Wallet App is a user-friendly, decentralized application that allows Nigerians to seamlessly on-ramp and off-ramp the Naira, converting it into stablecoins such as USDC. Beyond just a wallet, it will also enable users to stake their funds using Cygnus Finance staking pools, promoting financial growth for users while offering multiple wallets with time-locked staking options. This opens access as one more way into decentralized finance. The core mission of the project is to create an app that is inclusive, secure, and easy to use for individuals across various levels of technological literacy, with an emphasis on the unique needs of the Nigerian market. To overcome language barriers, the platform is offered in Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba, making it accessible to a broader audience. The use of airdrops encourages early adoption by providing users with free crypto, reducing financial risk and fostering engagement. This approach promotes crypto education and participation, potentially driving financial inclusion and economic empowerment in underserved communities. Challenges we ran into Challenges We Ran Into: 1. Integration Issues Between Next.js and React - Problem: The on-chain kit was developed in Next.js, but the frontend team was more familiar with React. This mismatch led to recurring integration errors when combining the two. - Solution: The team had to manually add folders and code to bridge compatibility gaps between the frameworks, which eventually resolved the integration issues. 2. Complexity of Aerodrome Staking Integration - Problem: Aerodrome's staking interface was too complex for your use case, making it challenging to integrate a user-friendly staking solution. - Solution: The team switched to *Cygnus Finance*, which offered a simpler interface for implementing a wrapper around staking functionality, better aligning with the MVP’s need for ease of use. 3. Design and Component State Management - Problem: Maintaining consistency across UI elements (colors, icons, states) and handling multiple component states (hover, typing, disconnected) was challenging, especially when ensuring seamless user interactions. - Solution: The team implemented a design system with reusable components and conducted thorough state-based mockups to ensure visual consistency. This was supported by frontend frameworks for smooth state management.
