    About

Why are you participating for Based Africa? I am participating in Based Africa to address the critical issues of digital security and accessibility that impact our communities. The rise of internet censorship and the challenges associated with public Wi-Fi and dVPN security are especially pronounced in Africa, where many users struggle to access information freely and securely. My motivation stems from a desire to empower individuals in my region with tools that protect their privacy and enhance their online experiences. Additional Features Before the Buildathon, NetSepio had a foundational structure for the dVPN. During the event, I added features for improved user interfaces and integrated a transparent reward system for bandwidth sharing, enhancing user engagement and clarity in compensation.

    How it's made

What challenges are you focusing on? I am focusing on three main challenges in my community: Censorship Resistance: The complexity of building resilient applications that can withstand censorship and surveillance. Public Wi-Fi Security: The risks associated with accessing public Wi-Fi networks, which expose users to potential data breaches and cyber attacks. Bandwidth Sharing Economy: The barriers to sharing unused internet bandwidth, including unclear reward structures and quality of service. How does your submission address this challenge? My project, NetSepio, addresses these challenges through a decentralized infrastructure that combines decentralized VPN (dVPN) and decentralized WiFi (dWiFi) hotspots. By leveraging blockchain technology, we enable users to access the internet freely and securely, bypassing censorship while protecting their data. Additionally, our platform allows users to share their unused bandwidth easily, ensuring fair compensation and reliable service. This multifaceted approach empowers individuals to enhance their online experiences while fostering a more resilient and accessible internet. Challenges we ran into During the development of NetSepio, I encountered several hurdles: Technical Complexity: Integrating decentralized technologies for dVPN and dWiFi was challenging. I overcame this by collaborating with blockchain experts and utilizing open-source resources to simplify the integration process. User Trust and Adoption: Convincing users to adopt a new decentralized solution was difficult. I conducted educational outreach, highlighting the benefits of enhanced security and censorship resistance, which gradually built trust within the community.
