Meta Senate
A governing body for the metaverse
About
The problem it solves NFT communities have cultural influence but no political power. DAO governance is fragmented across dozens of protocols, each with low voter turnout and whale-dominated outcomes. There's no way for communities to speak with one voice. MetaSenate fixes this by creating an onchain congress for NFT communities: - NFT holders elect senators who represent their community in a shared governance body, turning passive collectibles into active political infrastructure - Senators control a Gnosis Safe multisig that aggregates delegated voting power across SporkDAO, ENS, Uniswap, Arbitrum, and Optimism - Anonymous voting via zero-knowledge proofs ensures ballot secrecy on a public blockchain - Continuous vote allocation means communities can recall and replace their senators at any time - Communities nominate and onboard new collections through an onchain process, letting the Senate grow democratically. Use of AI tools and agents Claude code to write it, no agents run as part of it
How it's made
Challenges we ran into **Anonymous voting on a public blockchain:** Enabling ballot secrecy when every transaction is visible required integrating Semaphore v4 zero-knowledge proofs. The challenge was managing the full lifecycle — voter registration, identity commitment collection, and proof verification — across multiple contract versions (V2 and V3) as we iterated on the right UX for commitment phases vs. direct voting. **Cross-chain delegation:** Supporting token delegation across mainnet, Arbitrum, and Optimism meant managing multiple chain contexts in a single UI. Wagmi's chain switching and ensuring the right RPC endpoints are hit for each delegation token added real complexity to what seems like a simple "delegate" button. **ENS resolution at scale:** Resolving ENS names for every candidate and senator created a flood of RPC calls. We had to batch requests and add caching through React Query to keep the UI responsive without hammering public endpoints.
