    Ardhi Onchain

The Onchain Land Ownership Verification System aims to solve land ownership disputes by creating a transparent, tamper-proof platform for registering land deeds on the blockchain.

    About

Why are you participating for Based Africa? As someone born and raised in Kenya, I've witnessed firsthand the struggles people face due to unclear land ownership records. These disputes hinder progress and security in our communities. By building a transparent, tamper-proof onchain land registry, I want to help solve this issue, empowering locals with reliable ownership rights and transforming land management in the region. This project is driven by my desire to see fairer, more secure systems that benefit everyone in our society. Additional Features Our project, TitleDeedTokenization and LandTitleRegistry, was conceived and developed entirely for the Buildathon. It is a fully decentralized solution aimed at revolutionizing land title management by tokenizing land ownership and creating a transparent registry on Base Sepolia. While the foundational system has been developed during this Buildathon, we have outlined several key enhancements for future development: Transaction Fees: We plan to integrate a mechanism for transaction fees that will cover the operational costs of registering and updating land titles on-chain. These fees will ensure sustainability while offering affordable services to users. User Data Security: A top priority is securing the database for user data, including title ownership and sensitive information. We are exploring encryption techniques and privacy-focused smart contracts to ensure data integrity and confidentiality. This will be crucial for scaling the solution in compliance with regulatory standards. User Feedback and Government Collaboration: We are actively engaging with potential users and relevant government bodies to gather feedback on the system’s use cases and interface. This feedback will be pivotal in refining the system for real-world deployment. Government collaboration, in particular, will help us ensure the system’s legitimacy and integration with existing frameworks. Further Deployment Steps: Beyond the Buildathon, we aim to focus on extensive testing, pilot programs in local regions, and building partnerships with governmental authorities. Ensuring a seamless user experience with feedback loops for continuous improvement will be at the core of our roadmap. This project is the foundation of a much larger vision aimed at revolutionizing land ownership verification and management through blockchain technology.

    How it's made

What challenges are you focusing on? Our project addresses several critical challenges in land ownership and management, particularly in regions where land disputes, fraud, and inefficiency hinder progress. With the help of Base, we are focusing on the following key challenges: Land Ownership Transparency: In many communities, verifying land ownership is time-consuming, opaque, and prone to disputes or corruption. By tokenizing land titles on Base, we aim to bring transparency and immutability to land ownership records, making it easy for anyone to verify ownership in real-time. Fraud and Land Grabbing: Fake or duplicated land documents often lead to fraudulent transactions and illegal land grabbing. By linking each land title to a unique, verifiable token stored on Base, we mitigate the risk of document forgery and unauthorized sales. Inefficiencies in Title Registration: Current systems for registering land titles are often manual and bureaucratic, leading to delays and high costs. Our blockchain-based solution automates the process of registering, transferring, and updating land titles, reducing time and lowering costs significantly. Access to Reliable Records: In rural or underserved communities, there is often a lack of reliable and accessible land records. Our solution ensures that once a title is tokenized and registered, it is permanently accessible, securely stored, and free from tampering, even in areas with limited infrastructure. Governmental Collaboration and Trust: Working with local governments, we aim to build trust in blockchain technology for land management. By creating a secure, government-approved registry on Base, we bridge the gap between modern technology and traditional land administration systems. Through these solutions, we are addressing the needs of communities that require more efficient, transparent, and secure land ownership management, using Base as the core infrastructure to power this transformation. How does your submission address this challenge? My project, the Onchain Land Ownership Verification System, aims to create a secure, blockchain-based land registry. This system would provide transparent, tamper-proof records of land ownership, accessible to landowners, government authorities, and potential buyers. By reducing land fraud and land grabbing, this project will help protect rightful owners, promote trust in land transactions, and reduce disputes. Ultimately, it will empower communities with fair and secure land ownership, fostering economic growth and stability. Potential Impact: Fraud Prevention: The immutable nature of blockchain eliminates the risk of forged or duplicated land documents, reducing cases of land fraud and illegal transactions. Transparency and Accessibility: Communities can easily access and verify land title information, creating an open and trustworthy system that benefits both urban and rural populations. Scalability and Future Growth: As the project develops, it can expand to include smart contract-based leasing, mortgages, and other land-related transactions, making it a comprehensive solution for modern land management. Challenges we ran into I faced hurdles integrating Wagmi with Base Sepolia for smart contract interaction, managing app functionality across different platforms, and ensuring inclusivity for users with limited internet access, which I addressed through Finding other frameworks to use. Throughout the project, I encountered challenges with configuration errors in Hardhat, chunk loading issues in Next.js, and contract deployment hurdles, all of which were resolved through debugging, configuration adjustments, and rebuilds. One of the main challenges encountered was configuring Jest to properly handle ECMAScript Modules and transforming specific dependencies like chai during testing, which required adjustments to the Jest configuration and careful handling of ESM support. Which I did not manage to work through in time. Another major challenge I encountered was resolving transaction reverts and contract interaction issues on Base Sepolia due to incorrect function arguments and troubleshooting errors, which I addressed by adjusting argument types, validating contract logic, and refining error-handling strategies.
