About
Why are you participating for Based Africa? I’m participating in Based Africa because I believe the future of Africa lies in preparing our children for the onchain economy. With over 400 million children in Africa, many are growing up without access to the digital tools and education that will define tomorrow’s world. Through Kids On Chain, we are bridging this gap by introducing kids to the onchain world through Base. Our debut storybook, The Tale of Webby, is the first step in this journey. We’re creating a movement, not just through storybooks, but also cartoons, music, art, and dance, all designed to bring children into the onchain space. In the words of one of our young readers, "Learning has never been this much fun!" We're committed to onboarding the next generation into Base, and eventually, we plan to establish school clubs to foster communities of young minds across Africa.
How it's made
What challenges are you focusing on? The world is moving towards decentralization, yet most blockchain education is geared towards adults, leaving children disconnected from this pivotal technological shift. According to a 2023 survey, only 5% of children are exposed to blockchain education, despite predictions that blockchain will shape industries ranging from finance to healthcare in the near future. Without early exposure, children miss out on the chance to become the innovators and leaders of tomorrow in a decentralized economy. How does your submission address this challenge? My project, The Tale of Webby, is the debut storybook under the Kids On Chain initiative. It was minted on Zora to drive onchain interactions and introduce kids to the idea of creating value onchain. Through a colorful, story-driven approach, we bring children into the onchain world by using characters and narratives that reflect their daily lives. We're not stopping at storybooks; we're introducing a multi-sensory experience that includes cartoons, music, and art, making it a full interactive learning journey. As one teacher said, "This project could be the key to unlocking the potential of African children in the digital world." We're also establishing school clubs to foster a sense of community and engagement among young learners. Challenges we ran into One challenge I faced was simplifying complex onchain concepts for a young audience. I worked closely with educators, designers, and experts to make sure my content was both educational and entertaining. Another major hurdle was getting approval from schools, as many were initially reluctant to introduce onchain-related content. However, I formed strong partnerships with forward-thinking educational institutions that understood the importance of future-proofing their students, helping us close that gap.
