    GlucoGuard by DiaDAO

Transforming Diabetes Care with DeSci Innovation f

    About

The problem it solves GlucoGuard by DiaDAO is a decentralized diabetes management app on Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 solution. It empowers diabetic patients, those with a history of diabetes, and pre-diabetic individuals to manage their health while earning DIA tokens, backed 1:1 by USDC, to offset costs. Governance uses NFT-based securities and proxy voting, with Community NFTs offering utility benefits. GlucoGuard aims to become a decentralized insurer by 2027, partnering with insurance companies and suppliers to lower healthcare costs. Designed for hackathon innovation, it leverages Coinbase’s ecosystem and USDC for scalability and stability, fostering a Decentralized Science (DeSci) ecosystem for research and impact.

    How it's made

Challenges we ran into Financial Component: Balancing Rewards and Offsetting Expenses: It’s impossible for GlucoGuard to offset all user expenses through DIA rewards, though I initially started this project hoping to do so even AFTER capital raising. Reward Structure: Users earn 1 DIA per meal log and 1 DIA per referral (1 DIA = 1 USDC). Maximum reward: 3 meals/day for 365 days (1,080 DIA) + 50 referrals (50 DIA) = 1,130 DIA = $1,319.41/year (with 15% Community NFT discount). Annual diabetes supply costs: $6,900 (whitepaper estimate, based on 2025 data). Reward Value vs. Expenses: $1,319.41 covers 19% of $6,900, leaving $5,580.59 unmet. To offset all $6,900, a user would need 5,932 DIA/year (3 meals/day = 1,080 DIA; requires 5,482 additional DIA, or ~15 meals/day, which is impractical). Revenue Constraints: Year 1 revenue: $661,750 (10,000 users, $54,250 fees, $150,000 partnerships, $457,500 DeFi yields). Total DIA rewards: 10,000 users × (1,080 logs + 5 referrals) = 10,850,000 DIA = $10,850,000. To offset $6,900 for 10,000 users = $69,000,000, far exceeding revenue and treasury capacity ($22,875,000). Cost of Rewards: DIA rewards are a cost to GlucoGuard (e.g., $50,000 for referrals in Year 1). Increasing rewards to $6,900/user would cost $69,000,000, leading to a $68,338,250 loss (vs. $219,100 currently), depleting the treasury in under 4 months. Conclusion: Offsetting all expenses via rewards is impossible due to: User Behavior: 3 meals/day is a practical maximum; higher rewards require unrealistic logging (15 meals/day). Financial Limits: $69,000,000 cost exceeds revenue ($661,750) and treasury ($22,875,000), risking insolvency. Solution: The 2027 insurance phase ($100/month premiums, $12,000,000 profit with 100,000 users) aims to cover the remaining $5,580.59, balancing rewards with sustainability. GlucoGuard faces challenges in user adoption, regulatory compliance, data privacy, financial sustainability, and DeSci scalability. While it reduces costs ($1,300/year via DIA rewards), offsetting all $6,900 in expenses is impossible due to practical limits on user behavior (3 meals/day) and financial constraints ($69,000,000 cost vs. $661,750 revenue). The 2027 insurance phase addresses this gap, showcasing a scalable, impactful solution for diabetes care.
