    About

Why are you participating for Based Africa? We are participating in this buildaton because we want to curb the challenges of individuals especially teens our age facing mental health issues and are not able to seek help Additional Features Our project started this buildaton and this is our first buildathon project

    How it's made

What challenges are you focusing on? We are focusing on Mental health cause it's not taken serious in our community. So these are some of the reasons why; Our age target is from 13-25 1. Stigma and Taboo: In my community, mental health issues are associated with weakness, shame, or personal failure. This stigma prevents people from openly discussing their struggles, seeking help, or supporting others who are facing mental health challenges. 2. Lack of Awareness:people only know few understands which leads to misconceptions. Many people are unaware that mental health is just as important as physical health, and that disorders like depression, anxiety, and PTSD are common and treatable. 3. Insufficient Resources: Often, our community also lack adequate mental health care resources, such as access to qualified professionals, affordable therapy, or crisis intervention services. This can leave individuals without the support they need to manage their mental health. 4. Cultural Beliefs: Some people rely on traditional or cultural beliefs to explain mental health issues, attributing them to supernatural forces, moral failings, or spiritual issues. This can delay or prevent individuals from seeking modern, evidence-based treatments. 5. Economic Barriers: Even when mental health services are available, financial constraints can prevent people from accessing them. The high cost of therapy, medication, or other treatments can make mental health care inaccessible for lower-income individuals. 6. Social Isolation: Factors like poverty and unemployment are also causes. How does your submission address this challenge? Gen-MOM(mind over matters) is a project built for ages 13- 25 it's a platform built for users who are struggling with their mental health and are unable to seek help. Our community is Dutse Alhjai located in Abuja Nigeria. Mental health is not seen as something that needs serious attention. So our aim is to introduce teens and adults on chain and enlighten them about the advantages, how they can seek help and also get reward. By onboarding them on chain, individuals can seek help by; Peer to peer suport: They can anonymously seek support from others who have been through similar experience without being scared of their stories being shared without consent cause blockchain ensures privacy while fostering a sense of community. Reward Systems: Blockchain tokenize participation in mental health programs. They could earn tokens for participating in therapy, meditation, or self-care tasks like exercise which can later be redeemed for services or support for their growth. NFTs for Achievements:Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) can be used to mark progress in therapy or mental health improvement milestones, providing both a personal and community-based sense of accomplishment which is also like a growth in their progress On-chain counseling services: Therapists from anywhere offer decentralized counseling services where all interactions are encrypted and held on-chain, ensuring anonymity and privacy. We also have a website whereby tips will be posted, more understanding about some of these mental health challenges, causes and prevention We also created a Gen-MOM website as a guide for them to seek tips, and also contact us. Our project will really impact people and make them believe they're not alone. And also allow them to be free and express themselves better Challenges we ran into 1. Time management: we had lots of things in mind to do like building an app cause that was our initial plan but time was not enough. So we built a website instead 2. We also could not reach as many people like we wanted, cause some of them do not use android phones which is a very important tool. But we were able to reach out still. And even after the awareness some of our community members were convinced to get an Android so that they would be able to benefit afterwards.
