    FanSociety

A platform for generational funding for musicians, crowdsourced from their fans; a two sided giving marketplace to bolster the music industry.

    About

The problem it solves The rapid change in the music industry has left a void in the ecosystem that has been filled by large streaming platforms that extract much of the monetary compensation of musicians/artists productive outputs. In the not-too-distant past, artists were able to get a record deal which acted as startup capital for their venture and there was a clear path for a musicians career. These days record labels and their startup capital have nearly completely dried up. Rather than building a new streaming platform to more fairly pay the artists, the thesis of FanSociety is to provide a framework that is specific enough to be a useful additional source of income for musicians, but also open and customizable enough to work for a variety of musicians' career arcs and the communities that are built around each musician/artist/group, ie their Fans. Musicians can obtain funding from their fans through donations (think crowdsource funding) and receive an ERC 1155 NFT as proof of their support and their "fan" status. Musicians then have an on-chain database of their supporters and are able to give back to their supporters however and whenever they want. So if you supported an musician, they could then do a limited edition pressing of vinyl that are redeemable only by their supporters. This cycle of the musicians receiving funds from their fans and then giving back for their support would hopefully act like.

    How it's made

Challenges we ran into Discovered a bug in the graph-cli tool. It didn't fully support contracts that had not been verified on etherscan. I updated my config to get etherscan verification working and was able to move forward successfully with the graph-cli tool.
