The problem it solves The Eigen Reward Project addresses the challenge of fragmented security within the Ethereum ecosystem by introducing a mechanism called "restaking." In the current Ethereum framework, individual applications and protocols often need to establish their own security measures, which can be resource-intensive and lead to inefficiencies. EigenLayer allows Ethereum validators to "restake" their staked ETH, extending Ethereum's robust security model to additional protocols and services without requiring these services to set up separate security infrastructures. By enabling users to claim Eigen tokens based on their existing Ethereum holdings—specifically, 4 Eigen tokens per 1 ETH—the project incentivizes participation in this restaking process. This not only enhances the security of emerging protocols but also offers Ethereum stakers additional rewards, thereby promoting a more secure and capital-efficient ecosystem.
