Decentralized end to end messaging system with nucypher and textile
About
The problem it solves Privacy is very important but It’s a hard problem to solve in a decentralized world where each entity has access to you public data. Decentralised Chatting platform is a very promising usecase where two parties should be able to talk to each other without compromising their privacy. Nucypher’s proxy encryption algorithm provides a mechanism to share encrypted data between parties which is only decrypted by desired parties. - We aim to build an end to end encrypted decentralized messaging platform. - We leveraged Nucypher technology to share a symmetric key between parties which can now be used to send encrypted messages. - IPFS as storage - Mosaic layer 2 scaling solution for orchestration of whole process like identification of peers etc What we are able to achieve: - Able to successfully used nycypher for sharing symmetric keys between parties which can be used for chatting. - Using textile.io to setup a decentralized peer to peer messaging service. - Using symmetric key in the textile.io stack to encrypt and decrypt messages. Some notes on textile.io: - Everyone Chooses or federate your own service peer or relayer (cafes) and still participate in the whole network. - Here you’re in control of where the message is actually delivered. Most importantly, because the update messages are encrypted, you do not need to trust the cafe(relayer) hosting the inbox.
How it's made
Challenges we ran into Nucypher currently supports decryption of data only once, if someone wants to decrypt again, sender again need to encrypt it. To solve this, we kepts decrypted data local to the reciever once decrypted. While setting up textile.io, we tried to setup local cafe or relayer. It didn’t work. So we used hosted relayer for integration.
