    About

Why are you participating for Based Africa? We are participating in this hackathon for Africa because we believe in the power of blockchain to promote transparency, inclusivity, and community-driven projects. Africa is a region with immense potential for growth, where decentralized technologies can play a critical role in overcoming challenges related to financial transparency, inclusion, and access to funding. By leveraging Base's blockchain capabilities, we aim to create a more transparent and efficient donation system that directly supports local communities and social causes, empowering individuals and organizations to create positive change.

    How it's made

What challenges are you focusing on? We are addressing the challenge of lack of transparency and trust in charitable donations within communities. Often, donors are uncertain whether their contributions reach the intended recipients or are used effectively. This lack of transparency can deter potential donors from contributing to important causes, hindering the impact of community-driven projects. How does your submission address this challenge? BaseDonations aims to solve this challenge by using a decentralized donation platform built on the Base blockchain. Our platform allows users to create donation campaigns and make contributions in a fully transparent way, where all transactions are recorded on-chain. This ensures that donors can track the flow of funds and see exactly how much has been raised for a specific cause. Additionally, the use of smart contracts ensures that funds reach the intended recipients directly and automatically when campaign goals are met, reducing the risks of mismanagement. Potential Impact: With BaseDonations, communities and social organizations can foster greater trust with donors, encouraging more contributions and allowing impactful projects to receive the support they need. This is especially beneficial for grassroots initiatives and smaller organizations that rely heavily on community support. Challenges we ran into Smart Contract Design: Designing a smart contract that could handle the complexities of creating and managing donation campaigns, while ensuring security, was a key challenge. We had to ensure that the contract could handle various edge cases, such as campaigns not meeting their goals or donations being sent with incorrect amounts. We overcame this by implementing a robust validation mechanism in the contract. User Experience: Creating an intuitive front-end that could easily connect with the blockchain and enable users without deep technical knowledge to interact with the platform was another hurdle. We solved this by using React and integrating MetaMask for seamless user authentication and transactions. Deployment to the Base Network: Understanding the deployment process and configuring Hardhat to work with Base's network settings took some time, especially due to specific configuration requirements. However, with thorough research and community support, we were able to set up the environment correctly and successfully deploy the smart contract.
