About
Why are you participating for Based Africa? Africa is home to a rapidly growing technology and blockchain community, but many organizations and individuals still face challenges related to document verification, integrity, and trust. Legal, educational, and business institutions often lack affordable and efficient methods to prove the authenticity of important files like contracts, certificates, or agreements. By building BaseProof, we aim to empower individuals and organizations in Africa to leverage the Base blockchain to solve real-world issues, creating more trust and transparency in document handling and storage. My connection to Africa comes from recognizing the vast potential in its emerging tech landscape, and I want to contribute to creating solutions that make a tangible difference.
How it's made
What challenges are you focusing on? One of the primary challenges in many African countries is the lack of trust in documentation, with frequent cases of fraud, tampering, or loss of vital documents. Whether in education, business, or government sectors, ensuring the integrity of files and verifying their authenticity without third-party intermediaries remains a major issue. How does your submission address this challenge? BaseProof addresses this challenge by providing a decentralized platform for document verification. It enables users to upload and timestamp document hashes on the Base blockchain, proving their existence and ensuring they have not been altered. This brings trust to digital document management systems, benefiting universities, businesses, and even legal sectors where the authenticity of contracts and certificates is crucial. By reducing reliance on centralized third-party verifiers, the platform lowers costs and enhances transparency. Potential impacts include: Reducing document fraud and manipulation. Empowering institutions and individuals with verifiable proof of document existence. Improving trust and transparency in digital processes. Challenges we ran into One technical hurdle was ensuring that the actual file contents weren’t uploaded to the blockchain to protect privacy, while still providing an immutable proof of its existence. We overcame this by implementing client-side hashing, so only the hash of the document is stored on-chain, not the document itself. Another challenge was deploying on the Base network and ensuring low gas costs for users, which was solved by properly configuring the Truffle and Web3 integration for Base Layer-2.
