    About

The problem it solves ALOHA AI SHIELD is the app used for EQuake decentralized insurance specifically designed for Hawaii's climate risks, with AI-powered assessment and cultural adaptation. Equake dInsurance is decentralized self-executing parametric earthquake insurance. This dApp creates self-executing policies for earthquakes that release Ether to a list of addresses. It uses Oraclize to query the USGS website an count the number of earthquakes above a given magnitude within a given radius around a latitude longitude pair and within a start/end date. Once the count is above zero it means that an earthquake has occured within the specified parameters, and the policy executes. Upon calling the ping() function of the smart contract which is done via the "Release Eligible Policies" button on the dApp, the query is sent to Oraclize, which triggers the callback function to release funds for all qualifying policies. The project is a real life use case for blockchain decentralized applications that contribute to the public goods category of Ethereum. Parametric insurance is rapidly advancing in developing countries. The EQuake project contributes to the Chinalink ecosystem with EtherISC by using blockchain technology through automated smart contracts for weather related events. Climate change has created an environment where parametric insurance is the future for streamlined claims process based on readily available data which allows for much faster payouts than traditional insurance.

    How it's made

Challenges we ran into I had 9 different languages that could be used to translate the site through a drop-down menu. I had limited translation capabilities and I am still working on incorporating the translation for the site. I have resolved to having English and Spanish for now.
