    About

The problem it solves AgriSure is a decentralized web platform designed to empower farmers by digitizing the registration and insurance process using blockchain technology and Chainlink oracles. It allows farmers to register online, upload documents, customize insurance policies, and automatically receive payouts if parametric conditions—such as rainfall thresholds—are met. AgriSure replaces bureaucratic inefficiency with smart contracts, ensuring fairness, transparency, and instant compensation without needing to file claims or depend on centralized agencies. These traits are designed to improve crop performance by increasing resistance to pests, herbicides, and environmental stress. How Can People Use Agrisure? Farmers and agricultural professionals use Agrisure corn hybrids to: 1. Control Pests Traits like Agrisure Viptera® and Agrisure Duracade® provide built-in resistance to key insects (e.g., corn earworm, western corn rootworm). Reduces the need for multiple pesticide sprays, saving time and reducing chemical exposure. 2. Improve Weed Management Some hybrids are tolerant to glyphosate and glufosinate herbicides, simplifying weed control with fewer herbicide applications. 3. Increase Yields By protecting plants from stress and damage, Agrisure traits help ensure better crop development and higher grain output. 4. Enhance Grain Quality Traits like Agrisure Viptera reduce insect feeding damage, which improves the quality of harvested grain and reduces contamination (e.g., by mycotoxins). Benefits Benefits for Farmers: No Middlemen: Everything happens on-chain, directly. Secure & Verifiable: Immutable record of policy, premium, and conditions. Auto Compensation: No delays, no claim rejections—just automatic payouts. Cost-Efficient: Elimination of intermediaries reduces costs. Paperless & Digital: Simple, mobile-friendly experience. Customizable: Farmers can set their own rainfall threshold for coverage. Benefits for the Ecosystem: Trustless & Transparent: Payouts based on data, not bureaucracy. DeFi for Good: Demonstrates how blockchain and Chainlink can solve real-world agricultural problems. Scalable: Can be expanded to include other parameters like temperature, pests, market prices, etc. Interoperable: Contracts can work across chains with Chainlink CCIP (Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol). --- 🚀 Future Roadmap Milestone Description Chainlink Functions Add real-time weather data feed from any weather API IPFS Integration Store document uploads (land proof, insurance) on decentralized storage Admin Dashboard View farmer statistics, monitor payouts Regionalization Add multi-language support (Hindi, Marathi, Telugu etc.) Mobile App Build PWA or Android app for wider reach NGO/Government APIs Connect to public agricultural data and subsidy APIs Tokenization Introduce incentive token for good farming practices Task Without Agrisure With Agrisure Pest Control Frequent pesticide sprays Built-in resistance, fewer sprays Weed Control Manual/mechanical removal or multiple herbicides Efficient chemical weed control Harvest Quality Risk of insect damage and mold Healthier, cleaner grain Labor Intensity Higher, due to more interventions Reduced, saving time and labor Sustainability Impact Lower chemical usage: Reduces environmental contamination and human exposure. Efficient land use: Higher yield per acre means less land needed to meet food demand. Supports climate resilience: Traits that tolerate drought or heat help stabilize production.

    How it's made

Challenges we ran into Challenges Faced While Building AgriSure and their solutions - Technological Challenges- 🖥️ Frontend Complexity & UI/UX Design Building a multi-step registration form with animated transitions that remained consistent across desktop and mobile devices was a core challenge. Ensuring accessibility for farmers with limited digital literacy meant we needed a clean, intuitive interface without unnecessary jargon. We had to maintain thematic consistency (dark/blue modern theme) and implement responsive design with hamburger menus, animated buttons, and smooth transitions. Solution - To address the frontend complexity and UI/UX challenges, we implemented a modular, component-based multi-step form using React and Framer Motion, ensuring smooth and consistent animated transitions across devices. We prioritized accessibility by designing a clean, jargon-free interface with clear icons, large touch targets, and multilingual support, tailored for farmers with limited digital literacy. A responsive layout with Tailwind CSS enabled seamless adaptability between desktop and mobile views, incorporating a collapsible hamburger menu for navigation. Thematic consistency was maintained using design tokens for colors, spacing, and motion, aligning with the dark/blue modern theme while keeping the user experience simple, intuitive, and inclusive. 🔐 Web3 & Smart Contract Integration Writing Solidity contracts that register farmer data, store policy information, and execute payouts securely. Integrating MetaMask and managing gas fees while ensuring transactions remained seamless to the user. Managing error handling, transaction rejection, and wallet connection issues across multiple testnets (Polygon Mumbai & Sepolia). Solution - To overcome the challenges of Web3 and smart contract integration, we developed robust Solidity contracts with clear data structures to securely handle farmer registration, policy storage, and automated payout logic, incorporating access control and fail-safes to prevent misuse. We integrated MetaMask using Ethers.js, with logic to detect wallet status, handle user rejections gracefully, and auto-prompt network switching between Polygon Mumbai and Sepolia. To minimize friction, we abstracted gas fee complexity by estimating costs upfront and displaying user-friendly prompts. Comprehensive error handling was implemented to catch transaction failures, wallet disconnections, or incorrect network issues, ensuring a seamless and guided user experience even in decentralized environments. 🔗 Chainlink Oracle Integration Setting up Chainlink nodes to fetch real-time weather data (rainfall) through external APIs in a decentralized and trustless way. Designing parametric logic such that if rainfall < threshold, the smart contract would auto-trigger payouts. Testing on-chain data feeds and configuring Chainlink Functions for custom API calls. Solution- To solve the challenge of Chainlink Oracle integration, we configured Chainlink Functions to securely fetch real-time rainfall data from external weather APIs and deliver it on-chain in a decentralized, trustless manner. We set up the necessary Chainlink node jobs and request/response cycles within our Solidity smart contracts, ensuring authenticated API access and data parsing logic were handled off-chain. Parametric insurance logic was encoded to trigger automatic payouts when rainfall values fell below predefined thresholds, eliminating manual intervention. Extensive testing on testnets like Sepolia involved simulating various weather conditions and validating automated contract responses, while gas-optimized contract design ensured efficient execution of data requests and payouts. 📤 Document Upload & File Management Providing file upload functionality for ownership proof and previous insurance documents. Planning for future integration with IPFS to enable decentralized document storage while ensuring file privacy and security. Solution - To address document upload and file management, we implemented a secure file upload system using client-side validation and encryption to handle sensitive documents like land ownership proof and past insurance records. Files were temporarily stored in a centralized backend with role-based access control and metadata tagging for easy retrieval. To future-proof the system, we designed the architecture to support seamless integration with IPFS, where documents can be hashed and pinned for decentralized storage while maintaining privacy through encryption before upload. A mapping of IPFS hashes to user identities was maintained on-chain to ensure tamper-proof traceability and secure access control, laying the groundwork for a more transparent and decentralized document verification process.
