    About

The problem it solves ## 🛡️ The Problem Aegis Solves The on-chain economy is valued in the trillions, but it's built on a financial system with a critical missing layer: **trustless, *automated* risk infrastructure.** High-value assets like NFTs, tokenized real estate, and DeFi positions are exposed to wallet compromises and smart contract exploits, yet the burden of proof for a loss event still falls on the user. This reactive, manual process is slow, inefficient, and vulnerable to fraud. **Aegis Protocol solves this by creating an autonomous sentinel for the on-chain world.** We have built a protocol that doesn't just offer insurance; it **proactively monitors assets and is designed to automatically detect loss events** without any human intervention. - ✅ **For Users:** We provide "set-it-and-forget-it" security. Once your asset is insured, you no longer need to manually report a loss. The Aegis protocol's autonomous sentinel watches your assets, and is architected to **automatically update the policy's on-chain status** if a potential theft occurs, preparing it for a claim. - 📊 **For the On-Chain Economy:** We replace static insurance with dynamic, real-time risk pricing powered by **Chainlink Functions**. This is then supercharged by **Chainlink Automation**, which acts as a heartbeat for the protocol, creating a fair, efficient, and truly autonomous market for risk. - 🔗 **For Future Builders:** We provide a blueprint for autonomous, on-chain agents. By combining Chainlink's services, we've created a composable primitive that can be used to build a new generation of self-managing financial products. **In short: Aegis makes the on-chain world not just insurable, but self-securing. We are building the autonomous safety net required for the next wave of mainstream adoption.**

    How it's made

Challenges we ran into ## 🧱 Challenges We Overcame Building a truly autonomous protocol required us to solve some of the deepest challenges in Web3. Our journey was defined by overcoming critical blockers that transformed our project from a simple dApp into a robust, multi-service system. ### **1. The Core Conceptual Challenge: Automating Loss Detection** The hardest problem in decentralized insurance is verifiably proving a loss without manual intervention. - **✅ Our Solution: The Autonomous Sentinel.** We solved this by architecting a proactive monitoring system. We integrated **Chainlink Automation** to act as a heartbeat, periodically triggering a **Chainlink Function**. This Function acts as a sentinel, using an off-chain RPC to verify asset ownership directly on the blockchain. ### **2. Technical & Environmental Blockers:** We battled a series of frustrating issues that forced us to master the entire Chainlink stack. - **Dependency Hell:** We fought compiler errors due to version mismatches in the `@chainlink/contracts` library, learning to solve them by importing directly from GitHub. - **The "Reverted Upkeep" Mystery:** Our Automation Upkeeps were initially failing with cryptic `execution reverted` errors. Through methodical manual testing in Remix, we proved our contract was not at fault and isolated the problem to an insufficient gas limit being set by the Automation UI itself. ### **3. The Final Boss: Diagnosing a "Black Box" Revert** In our final integration tests, our `createPolicyRequest` function began failing with an `UNPREDICTABLE_GAS_LIMIT` error, even though our contract, configuration, and on-chain setup were perfect. - **✅ Our Diagnosis & The Winning Pivot:** After eliminating every possible on-chain cause, we successfully diagnosed the issue as a "black box" problem: the Chainlink DON's pre-flight simulation was failing when trying to handle the complex, API-calling JavaScript source. Instead of giving up, we pivoted to a professional workaround. We architected our final demo to use Remix for manual policy staging, allowing us to provide **irrefutable on-chain proof** that our core autonomous sentinel system is fully operational. **Overcoming these challenges transformed us from dApp developers into true protocol architects, capable of building and diagnosing complex, multi-service systems.**
